Sludge
Incorporation and Utilisation
The use of waste sludges -
fibre, paper pulp, sewage, - can all greatly assist establishment, moisture retention and
nutrition on hostile and infertile sites. They can buffer PH extremes, stabilise
soil structures and reduce run off on mineral and shale soils. Cheviot Trees has
considerable experience in this field.
Trees are an ideal crop to
utilise sludges, and offer large areas and possibilities for the safe and environmentally
friendly, beneficial disposal of increasingly abundant waste products.
Planting
on Hostile Sites
With planting increasingly
occurring on Derelict, Industrial, Reclaimed and Contaminated land, it is essential to use
Planting Stock of a type that will both survive and perform. The re-establishment of
growing crops and trees on Derelict waste land greatly enhances the amenity value,
Landscape character and Biodiversity in these areas. Combinations of conventional
Tree species along with Short Rotation forestry and grassland along with
wild flower mixes
are ideal for multi-use establishment on these sites.
