The Concept
The dream of
Archerfield is a journey whose destination will be one of Scotland’s
premier golfing and leisure havens. The
estate has been reinvested with its illustrious past and the final key
elements are being put in place to create a true golfing utopia. Two
world class links courses lie at the heart of Archerfield while the
grade 1 listed Archerfield House will provide a focal point. Historical,
tranquil, exclusive and desirable, superlatives which characterise
Archerfield to a tee. With
provision for one hundred luxury homes in a place of such beauty, the
location lends itself to a lifestyle second to none. This
is the concept of a community to be shared and a dream fulfilled.
The restoration of two world class links courses
Following the Second
World War, Archerfield House and its estate declined into a state of
decay. It seemed that the
tradition of links golfing at Archerfield would be consigned to mere
memory, and ultimately to obscurity in the mists of time.
Today the story is different one!
Like a reawakening, Archerfield, a lost treasure, is being
returned to former glory in an area which many would describe as the
true home of Scottish Links Golf. David J Russell has designed two links courses of World Class
stature, both courses so attuned to the natural elements and contours of
the existing landscape that the legacy of five hundred years of golf on
the site has been effortlessly recaptured.
The Direlton Links
(formerly Archerfield)
Direlton Links
has once again been restored to its former glory.
The Direlton course winds its way inland to Direlton with clear
views from the trees of Direlton Castle, Direlton Kirk, Berwick Law,
Archerfield House and the Isle of May.
Like its neighbour, the course is firmly rooted in the long
history of this remarkable place. Different, challenging, world class – of course.

The Fidra Links
Fairways bordered
by trees lead to greens nestling in quiet, secret corners.
Eventually the course winds its way out to the beach at
Yellowcraig, where commanding panoramic views of the Firth of Forth and
the coast of Fife await. Other features that lie in wait include, White Knowe Cairn,
Fidra Island, Bass Rock, Craigleith and Berwick Law.
A links course of contrasting terrain and an ideal challenge for
all levels of golfers.
500,000 Plants programmed for Archerfield
Cheviot
Trees have successfully supplied and planted over 250,000 Plants on the
new development at Archerfield Estate, with a further 250,000 contracted
for supply over the next 2 years. Cheviot
Trees have worked very closely with the Caledonian Heritable team to help develop
and fulfil their dream of a true Golfing utopia.
The
main aim is to ensure that the two 18 hole Golf Courses “Direlton”
and “Fidra” look and feel very different but maintain a true native
appearance with traditional plants growing in abundance.
With this in mind Cheviot Trees have purposely grown true native
Shrubs such as Gorse, Broom, Wild Roses, Marram Grass and wild Heathers
all common to the area. Alongside
these we have planted typical Scottish Trees such as Rowan, Scots Pine,
Elder and Alder in pockets strategically placed to screen the Golf
Course from the Luxury Homes and enhance the overall look.
