Cheviot
continue to supply Forestry Commission native woodland planting in
Thames
Valley
Cheviot Trees have been
chosen once again to supply this latest planting of 115,000 Cell Grown
trees and shrubs, mostly of local
provenance, for this extension of the
Thames
Chase
Community
Forest
area.
In recent years the Forestry Commission
have been bringing green spaces closer to people across Britain. In April 2005, with funding from the Department
of Communities and Local Government, the Forestry Commission purchased
Jeskyns Farm, a 360acre site in Cobham,
Gravesend, to further extend the Thames Chase forest. The Forestry Commission are
now currently in the process of transforming it into community green
space and accessible woodland, for the benefit of the local community
and environment.
The newly
transformed Jeskyns Farm will include mixed woodland, areas of
wildflowers, grassland and hay meadows and even including a traditional
Kentish orchard. They are creating a network of trails and paths
across the site making Jeskyns accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and
horse riders.
The
Forestry Commission now own and manage 9 major woodlands within the
Thames Valley area and Cheviot have now supplied over 500,000 trees to
these woodlands, 80% on a contract grow basis. The Contract Grow makes
the forward planning possible, and gives Best Value to the client,
particularly where such specialist requirements are involved.
